Wickwar Parish Council held their monthly meeting on Wednesday 1st March 2017 at the Town Hall commencing at 7.00pm.
The Parish Council was saddened to hear of the death of a much-loved resident Mrs Val Johnson. Val will be missed. Chairman Mr Martin Summers held a minute silence at the start of our Council meeting to mark this sad event. Commiserations to the Johnson family.
The Clerk has spoken to Mr Dave Kelly Virgin Media Senior Build Engineer (07736300783 Mobile, David.Kelly@virginmedia.co.uk E mail) who has informed the Council that the intended road closure will take effect from 9.30am in the morning and the High Street will reopen at 3.30pm. Wickwar High Street will be closed. Information from South Glos Council, re road (For Virgin Media Cables to be laid).
This order is required in connection with cable ducting works and will be operative from the 10 April 2017 for a maximum period of eighteen months. The closure however may not be implemented for the whole of the period but only when signs are in position and only for so long as is necessitated by the works which are anticipated to be of 4 DAYS duration.

Wind Mills/turbines. The Clerk has contacted Ward Councillor Sue Hope (Hawkesbury) on information relating to the Planning Application regarding the erection of wind mills. The information supplied is as follows.
This relates to 2 turbines at Mountjoys Farm and a position off Chase Lane. Permission was granted by Stroud DC last year. Residents on the Commons made representations of objections to the original planning applications – but permission was granted.
Wickwar Parish Council are pleased to announce the winner of the Photo competition. Buffy Lee was our winner with her submitted photograph of the rainbow over Wickwar. She was presented with a cup and congratulated by the Parish Council. Well done Buffy.
The competition will be an annual event so get your cameras ready!
Parishioners reported a problem with a wall opposite the Old Station Inn, Station Road. The wall is believed to be in the ownership of Net Work Rail. Parish Council Spring Clean has been booked with South Glos Council. Saturday 6th May, meet at the Town Hall at 10am. Bin bags, litter sticks and gloves will be provided. Tea and cake at the Town Hall at 12pm. If you cannot make it but would like an area to be cleaned up, please let the Clerk know and we will deal with it if possible.
The Parish Council have the power to give grant aid to Charities and local organisations. Applications must be put in writing to the Parish Council via the Clerk. The Council will consider all applications. We do have certain criteria we must adhere to. For instance, we cannot give to an individual. The Parish Council reserve the right to refuse grant aid.
