Book Club
Recently moved to the village and wondered if anyone was running a book club who would be happy to accept a new member? Or anyone like the idea of meeting monthly or bi-monthly to choose book, and then meeting for a drink (preferably having read it!) a month later on the premise of discussing it? |

South Glos Council publish a pamphlet with a map of Public Rights of Way in the area, although it does contain at least one error regarding Bridleways
There is a Bridleway shown through the Parish Church, this does not exist and has been pointed out to the Footpaths Officer and the section head as far back as 2002
Horse riders should contact the vicar and ask permission to ride through the area
To obtain a copy email them at rightsofway@southglos.gov.uk
The area Footpath Officer was Ms Anita Walker last time I spoke to them |

Would it not be possible to place the Parish Council Minutes on the Community Portal, as happens for example in Rangeworthy? |

Walks
I see from the events calender that there is a village walk planned for Sunday 18th July. I have walked many of the footpaths around the village in the past 18 months and am always keen to find new routes to explore. Are these walks dog friendly. I ask because my experience is that not all organised walks are and my spaniel is keen to expand his rabbit census of the area. |

new group in village
I've been here a couple of years and the village seems to be very well served for people based around the church and the school which is great.
However I don't have children and have no wish to suddenly become religious (not that I'm anti either of them).
I would love to become more involved with the village community so would love to see a group which encompasses everyone.
Maybe a group that could consider childless couples in the village - for whatever reason, teenagers that have gone past the youth club phase, retirees, singles, gay couples, etc.
Discussions could be on local festivals, maybe how to do great fun dinner parties, what classes are around - dressmaking, upholstery, pilates, yoga etc. what local charities might want some input i.e princess royal trust, woodland trust, etc. maybe book clubs etc
They do seem to allow for some of these in wotton-under-edge but I don't think the village does and I think its big enough to do it.
I personally don't think we should exclude couples with children/ church groups but the emphasis could be on things other than this.
if anyones interested then i'd love to get to know people in the village a bit more
Cheers |

Out of Date
Hello jlc,
The Wickwar Website is currently run on a voluntary (unfunded) basis, and as a result, updates must fit around other commitments, which is why there are sometimes delays in posting the Parish Council agendas and minutes.
We are in discussions with the Parish Council in a bid to see this situation improve, which should hopefully be within the next couple of months.
Thank you for your continued patience.
Kind regards,
Dan Luton

Why is this site so out of date - the parish council, agendas and minutes could do with updating every month. Why does this not happen |

There are many lovely walks around Wickwar. There is an easy access trail to get you started. I can point you in the right 'direction'!!
Please contact me Pat Trull - Parish Clerk (Wickwar PC) 01454 299120 or trull@btinternet.com
I will put you in touch with a local walking club. The Parish Council generally undertake a monthly footpaths walk. |

Walks
Hi Stew,
Not an avid walker, but a couple of good spots to suggest:
In Wickwar - Lower Woods:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=gl12+8lp&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=68.558336,188.4375&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Wotton-under-Edge,+Gloucestershire+GL12+8LP,+United+Kingdom&ll=51.593046,-2.395929&spn=0.001683,0.005751&t=h&z=19
In Wotton - to Nibley Monument:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=51.59304,-2.395951&daddr=Wotton-under-Edge,+Gloucestershire+GL12+8LP,+UK&hl=en&geocode=%3BCcviFyTeBWUdFfYxEwMdLW7b_ylBQ3QWup5xSDG0uiS19r1yzg&mra=mi&mrsp=0&sz=19&sll=51.593046,-2.395929&sspn=0.001683,0.005751&ie=UTF8&ll=51.644993,-2.356229&spn=0.001681,0.005751&t=k&z=19
(Park in the lay-by here).
The latter is a great walk in the Summer, can take a picnic to eat near the monument, and for a small donation you can explore the top of the tower with some amazing views.
Pat Trull (our Parish Councilor) also arranges walks around the area a few times a year, details will be posted on this site. |

i'm also up for taking a dog for a run - no charge but prefer bigger dogs if it needs exercise. a couple of days a week should do it :o) |

either early morning before work or after in the early evening? I need to do some exercise, don't like gyms too much but wouldn't mind jogging with other novices who know the places to run a bit better then me? |

Leyhill Aboretum
The "farm shop" at Leyhill was closed late 2005 after some pretty major refurbishment work (something to do with changes in the prison policy and/or budget reasons) and my guess is that the Arboretum maintenance was a part of that deal.
Seems a shame to let it go though, was a nice walk.
