Police Report - June '09

Attention: open in a new window. PrintE-mail

PolicePolice have been cracking down on speed enforcement in Wickwar and Rangeworthy. A number of drivers have been given tickets for disobeying the speed limit. The lucky ones have either had words of advice or a letter sent advising them of their actions. The beat team will be visiting the village periodically to upkeep speed enforcement in both Rangeworthy and Wickwar.

Lorries and other large vehicles have also been causing a problem in Wickwar regarding the weight limit, especially during the diversions. Police have also been enforcing the weight limit in Wickwar periodically. Unfortunately many Lorries we were stopping were right on the weight limit. However a small number of LGV’s have been issued with tickets. Trading standards are also very pro-active in the village and summon drivers to court.

As the weather gets warmer and youths are taking exams, police are keeping an eye on youths drinking in the villages. If residents are experiencing problems please contact the police on 0845 456 7000, if no one on the beat team is available to attend another unit will be sent when time allows. I would also appeal to parents to make themselves aware of where their children may be and also be advised if your child is caught drinking or anything else they shouldn’t be doing, police will be knocking on your door and returning them. This probably sounds very nice of us, but in fact it is a fantastic way of getting proper addresses for the youths involved, anti social behaviour forms will be submitted and the local council may become involved.

Please also be aware a number of stolen vehicles are being ‘dumped’ in and around Wickwar and Rangeworthy. If you see a vehicle which looks out of place, left in a strange place/position, and you don’t recognise please get in touch again on the 0845 456 7000 number with the location and registration of the vehicle. We will then check the vehicle and attend if necessary. Please note, vehicles are only being dumped and as yet not being taken, so please do not panic.

Finally, we are working very closely with the environment enforcement agency, regarding the amount of fly tipping taking place across the beat. We are dealing with this as much as possible, although it is asked, that if residents see a vehicle fly tipping, take note of the registration number, a brief description of the offender (s) and call your beat team on 0117 945 5979.
